Terminology and Definitions
FMJ
FMJ is an acronym for Full Metal Jacket, but don't get it confused with the Stanley Kubrick movie. These rounds are great for target practice or the frontlines. They are comprised of a full metal projectile with a rounded or sharply pointed end.
AR
AR when used in the context of an AR-15 stands for Armalite Rifle after the original company who designed it and does NOT stand for "assault rifle" contrary to popular belief.
CBRN
CBRN is an acronym that stands for chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear. CBRN gear or CBRN related equipment is used to protect against the threats listed above, and acts as PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in those situations.
NIR
Near InfraRed (NIR) refers to the wavelength of light from 780 nanometers to 2500 nanometers. Although it is not visible with the naked eye, it can be seen with various night vision devices (NVDs), including tactical night vision goggles (NVGs).
Nyco
A 50% Nylon 50% Cotton blend of fabric typically found in NIR-compliant gear and many military surplus pieces.
